Good morning from Yellowstone,

Yesterday we spent a fantastic day in the Park.  We traveled the perimeter road in the park, stopping off to the see all the amazing sights.

This is a great time of year to be there, less tourists and an abundance of wildlife.

The leaves are beginning to change on the hardwood trees and the contrast between the gold leaves and the evergreen trees were beautiful.

Our least favorite thing in the park was the sulfur odor from the geothermal areas.  We still has the smell in our noses by the time we arrived back at camp.  The geothermal areas are a result of volcanic activity below the surface.  As groundwater from snow melt and other precipitation is heated by the molten rock below, the water finds a path through cracks and fissures to the surface, where it emerges in geysers, hot springs, mudpots and fumaroles.

Old Faithful
Old Faithful was amazing; it erupts like clockwork about every 80 minutes as it has since pioneers first discovered it in the 1870's.  We posted a video that we took for you to enjoy, click the link in the video section of our main blog site.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the rivers, lakes and waterfalls.  The landscape was beautiful.  We were surprised what a large area of the park was burned in a huge forest fire in 1988. Young trees are beginning to cover the burned area; it was reseeded with the help of the wind and animals feces carrying the new seed.  God has a unique way of restoring nature.

We took a couple of short hikes to see the fantastic waterfalls in this park.  The pictures do not do them justice.  The beauty and power must be experienced.

All in all, we had a great day. We took so many pictures that you need to check our web album link to see them all.  Our only complaint was the rush hour traffic.  By gosh you can’t get those slow moving vehicles to pull over!

Yellowstone style traffic
Today is our day of rest, back to the park tomorrow where we are headed to the Mammoth Hot Springs and Ranger Village area.
