Niagara Falls, October 13, 2011

Good morning from Locksport, NY, just outside of Niagara Falls.  Steve and I are calling in sick today.  We are both fighting upper respiratory infections.  Today will be filled with chicken noodle soup, hot tea, movies and jammies.  We have all the comforts of home right here in our little house on wheels.

Our Campground at Lazy Lakes
The weather finally caught up with us yesterday while visiting Niagara Falls, rain on and off.  We were prepared though with warm clothes and waterproof jackets.  The Falls were incredible.  You have to see them to appreciate the power of nature.  Niagara Falls State Park was quite beautiful; we enjoyed strolling through the lush beauty of the park.

After the falls we drove a few miles north to Old Fort Niagara, located on Lake Ontario, at the mouth of the Niagara River.  This historical military fort was built by the French in 1726.  It served as a point of protection to keep foreign troops from entering the territory via the waterways from the Atlantic.  The fort was eventually seized by the English from the French and finally by Americans from the English.  The compound was very interesting; we were in awe walking through the buildings that were almost 300 years old, imagining the things that had taken place there, the people who occupied the fort and the many that died there.

We concluded our day with a great barbeque dinner at the Brickyard Pub and Barbeque in nearby hamlet of Lewiston, NY.

Well, time to chill.  Hopefully we’ll be rested, feeling better and off to the Adirondacks tomorrow.  Don’t want to miss another day traveling this magnificent country of ours.
