We can’t believe we are beginning the fifth month of our trip, time has passed so quickly. We also can’t believe it’s time to leave Tennessee. In our time here we’ve done some fun things, met some awesome people and spent a lot of wonderful time with family. We feel at home here, but all good things must come to an end and it’s time to move on.
We look forward to getting home to sunny California, it has been very cold here, the last week or so the high has been only in the 30’s and 40’s and the nights have dropped down to the high teens. Burrr!
Last week we drove to Lynchburg, TN, home of the Jack Daniels Distillery. We spent the day touring the distillery and the quaint shops of old downtown Lynchburg. The tour was enjoyable and interesting. Did you know that Jack Daniels bought the business for $25 at age 13; the county where Lynchburg lies is a dry county and has been since prohibition, they do not have enough voting population to change the law; Jack Daniels was a very small man, only 5’2” tall and he died of gangrene as a result of injuring his toe when he kicked his floor safe.

We welcomed 2012 at the City of Nashville’s “Bash on Broadway”; this annual event closes down the infamous Broadway Street for the celebration. There was amazing music, a lot of people and a lot of fun. The music note was dropped at midnight and the Lynyrd Skynyrd band topped the entertainment.

We’ve visited Steve’s parents a few times on this trip, most recently as a few days ago. We have thoroughly enjoyed all the time we have spent with them. We are going to miss them very much.
For now, westward ho via the southern route; our current plans are to head to the Gulf, probably the panhandle of Florida and New Orleans, but knowing us that can change on a whim.
Here’s to a great 2012!
