Down on the Bayou

We left our temporary home in Nashville last Sunday, headed towards the Gulf Coast.  We spent our day with Steve’s parents and Falcon’s football.  We had an emotional departure on Monday morning and will miss them greatly.

Dukes of Hazard Museum, only in the south!
Monday night we stopped over near Montgomery, Alabama for a nights rest, but with bad weather heading our way we decided to ride it out for another day there.  I think this trip is affecting our mental reasoning though. We walked to Waffle House for breakfast in the rain after the campground passed out notices about what to if the tornado siren goes off! Can't wait to get back to California, I'll take earthquakes any day.

Overnight brought some heavy rain and some thrilling thunderstorms, but after a safe night’s sleep we resumed our journey to the Gulf Coast.  We are staying this week at a beautiful RV park on the Navy Construction Battalion Base (Seabee’s) in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Sunset over the Gulf
The Gulf is beautiful, awesome sunsets and amazing white sand beaches.  A few minutes down the coast is Biloxi where several large resort casinos are located.

Biloxi Bridge after Katrina
Unfortunately, the effects of Hurricane Katrina are still very prevalent.

Large stately southern homes dot the coast separated by many vacant lots for sale where we assume the same once stood.  After six years, the communities are doing a good job at rebuilding and moving on.

Tomorrow we’ll be visiting New Orleans for the day.  More to come…..
